Seattle, WA – The 39 Steps, the hit Broadway comedy based on Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller, will replace Hay Fever in the 2009-10 season line-up, Seattle Repertory Theatre announced today.
“We had been negotiating for the rights to present The 39 Steps, but nothing came through in the time frame needed to announce our upcoming season,” said Jerry Manning, Seattle Rep ProducingArtistic Director.
The theatre opted to make another selection, Hay Fever, but has since learned that they will in fact be able to present The 39 Steps, in association with La Jolla Playhouse. La Jolla will mount the production in August before it moves to Seattle Rep in September.
“As much as we hate to make a change to the season, this is one we don’t want to pass up,” Manning said. “It’s something our patrons are really going to enjoy and financially is a smart decision for us.”
The 39 Steps features a cast of four actors playing over 150 characters in this fast-paced adventure: one part Hitchcock masterpiece, one part juicy spy novel and a dash of Monty Python. The thrilling, riotous comedy straight from Broadway contains every single legendary scene from the award-winning movie—including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium.
The 39 Steps will open the Seattle Repertory Theatre season with performances starting September 25. Season tickets packages are now on sale at www.seattlerep.org or by phone at 206-443-2222. Single tickets will go on sale in August. |
